It's a widely known fact that if you're going to have a heart attack, Seattle is the best place to do it. That's because Seattle has one of the highest percentages of people trained in first aid and CPR. The downside of this is you have to be careful about stretching out in the park to take a nap — a passerby is likely to assume the worst and begin working on you. The plus side, though, is that Seattleites are trained to meet crises phlegmatically. We don't panic, because our EMT trainers have impressed upon us one of the most important tenets of emergency care: Your crisis is not my crisis. In other words, just because you're having an emergency doesn't mean that I should share in your pain.
