Spectral analysis - the process whereby any signal can be converted from amplitude versus time (the waveform you'd see on an oscilloscope or in a software audio editor) into amplitude versus frequency - is ubiquitous in audio today. Most modern measurement techniques rely on it for determining frequency response, distortion, jitter, etc, and spectral analyses form a familiar part of many of HFN's equipment reviews. So familiar that - unless graphs faze you altogether - you probably take them for granted. But there is more to this subject than meets the eye. In fact there is quite a lot you need to know about spectral analysis if you are to interpret it properly and understand both its strengths and limitations.
