While new AV receivers are being launched with comprehensive video up-conversion, HDMI switching facilities and even internet media connections, Harman Kardon has chosen, instead, to back another icon of our age - Apple's iPod. Its 40-series range comprises three AV receivers, all equipped with HK's proprietary interface, called The Bridge, which seamlessly connects your iPod to both the AV processing and power beneath its bonnet. The bonnet in question here belongs to the £700 AVR340. HK's top seven-channel model and one that looks suspiciously like the AVR335 reviewed in May '05. Compatibility with all current Dolby and DTS decode modes is assured, along with HK's proprietary Logic 7 by way of an alternative. The IR remote is a tasteful creation, though the set-up button (labeled 'OSD') is still buried among a cluster of similar controls.
