According to the MC75's designer, Sidney Corderman, 'The Cold Lion KT88 was a wonderful tube. We used them in the MC275 era and they were excellent. We did evaluate other tubes, like the KT66 and the EL34, but the Cold Lion KT88 really was my favourite. Its higher power and voltage ratings set it apart.' Cold Lion is gone, but Charlie Randall agrees about the '88, so the new MC75 uses specially-selected Russian KT88s. 'We have specific criteria, and we test 30-40 tubes at a time.' With audible relief, Charlie notes, 'There's a low reject rate.'
