The company that for years refrained from putting a digital output on its CD players has launched a versatile outboard DAC. Named, er, the Nairn DAC it offers eight S/PDIF inputs (two BNC, two RCA and four optical) plus two USB connections that support playback of hi-res audio files from memory sticks. The Nairn DAC also boasts a digital connection to both iPhones and iPods (5th generation onwards).rnInputs are clocked out of a FIFO buffer to reduce, if not eliminate, jitter while the 16x digital oversampling is achieved rnthrough custom code running on a SHARC processor. This also provides the flexibility for future firmware upgrades and/or the addition of new features. The current solution works with both Nairn and Apple remotes.
