Being one of the first wireless pioneers, Burne-Jones was the second radio company to be founded in Great Britain. It manufactured a wide range of radio components from the 1920s onwards. Burne-Jones entered the audio market in the early 1950s, introducing a 'Tangential' pick-up arm. This design, I believe, was unique at that time, not only looking completely different from its competition but also reducing tracking error and stylus wear. In the August 1954 edition of The Gramophone Percy Wilson wrote: 'It is beautifully made and indeed is an example of precision workmanship. Not withstanding the four extra pivots, the lateral motion is without play and is as sleek as velvet'.
