Munich Show 2009

During an era of global misery, it was rejuvenating to attend a show so active and upbeat and Munich's High End 2009 was packed with new products. The primary attractions seemed to be vinyl and turntables, servers and iPod-related wares, outrageous speakers and suitably Teutonic accessories - Germans love record-cleaning machines as much as do the British. The number of turntables seems to have increased over last year, but not just those with five-figure-and-above prices: the launch of Thorens' affordable new TD309 drew big crowds. As ever, the show's organisation was perfect, the catalogue weighed a ton and even a fire in Jean Hiraga's room couldn't dampen one's spirits.
