Last month's 'Opinion' piece discussed the level of three dimensional imaging that it's possible to obtain from a single pair of speakers. This month I'm experimenting with using four or more speakers. But why should this be of interest when just two loudspeakers deliver so much depth? Well, obtaining three-dimensional spatiality from two channels can prove capricious, so provided that source material, room size, budget and 'partner acceptance factor' allow for multichannel listening, a multi-speaker set-up can be a very effective means of reproducing music.
