I read Christopher Breunig's June 2009 Opinion article with interest and agree with everything he says. He made me remember one occasion when I had a transistor radio playing while I was in the bath. I had to keep topping up the hot water while waiting for an exciting performance of Tchaikovsky's Fifth to end!rnHowever every time I settle down to listen to my proper system I am so grateful that I am not restricted to lo-fi alternatives. As a classical music lover I like to hear violins without screeching treble and 'feel' the sound of cellos and double-basses in a good orchestra. Whatever the kind of music, I look for a properly 'open' sound - a concept not understood by MP3 users it appears.
