It's been a hard day. You simply want to come home, relax with a CD or the radio, or maybe just carry on with the iPod tracks you were travelling with. Hi-fi can get too complicated. Could it really be that all you need is Shanling's MC3000 plus a pair of speakers? Like the MC-30 [see HFN, Jan '08], the MC3000 Music Centre is a CD player with built-in FM tuner and amplification. But while the MC-30 has only a very low-powered tube power stage, the MC3000 comes with a claimed 60W per channel, enough for most conventional small speakers used in moderate-sized rooms. Also, the MC3000 is a full-width unit, so it looks just like one of Shanling's upmarket players.
