Clearaudio Concept MC (£530)

Concept was the name chosen by Clearaudio for its entry-level record player. Comprising a package of good quality turntable, arm and inexpensive moving-magnet cartridge aligned and ready to play, straight from its packing carton, it's a modern take on an old-fashioned proposition: plug 'n' play simplicity with no setting-up required. If you saw our appraisal last year of the Concept [HFN Jul' 10] you'll know that it costs £1100 and works a treat. So it's a neat, er, 'concept'. Clearaudio has a range of MM cartridges in its portfolio with price tickets to suit all pockets, but its moving-coils are decidedly high-end [see boxout]. So this new Concept MC is pitched at enthusiasts wanting a delicious moving-coil instead, and one that won't break the bank.
