The third sampler volume from the longstanding German Stockfisch (fish hung from sticks to dry, we are advised) audiophile record label, previously available on SACD, comes as a 44.1 kHz/24-bit download. It juxtaposes relatively known artists such as Sara K with lesser Stockfisch talent, and while the mood remains broadly folk-to-country rock throughout, it is unavoidably discontinuous by virtue of its sampler status. The joys come in discovering the hidden gems, such as Allan Taylor's brooding ballad 'Dedicated To...', or the energetic complexities of the Irish jig [see Lab Report], which is a bit freaky in your face from its wide stereo panning of the twin and tightly-tied button accordians. Overall, as a record company sampler, this collection is hard to recommend at full price - unless, perhaps, you'd like to begin your HD collection with a mixed bag.
