This one has all the makings of a hi-fi show staple - well, it would if there were sufficient shows to exploit it - because it's just so right in so many ways. Wilson respects and works in a number of genres, while refusing to adhere to only one, so this could nestle amongst your blues or rock LPs as easily as it does with the jazz vocals sets. Dating from 1993, her Blue Note debut, it's regarded as a career highpoint, and one listen will tell you why: it's gorgeously performed and recorded, the material ranging from the dark blues of Robert Johnson to Van Morrison's 'Tupelo Honey' to a stunning interpretation of Ann Peebles' 'I Can't Stand the Rain'.
