It's worth listening to this 1967 set to hear an 18-year-old Mick Taylor, who puts all of the hotshot teenage blues guitar heroes that have appeared over the decades into perspective. He slotted into a seasoned line-up with John McVie on bass and Hughie Flint on drums (as well as Keef Hartley) and simply rose to the occasion. His jaw-dropping presence aside, this is standard Mayall fare, which means that blues purists will hate it, but the more open-minded will enjoy his four originals and eight covers. This LP, in punchy mono, completes a trilogy with Blues Breakers With Eric Clapton and A Hard Road, with the astonishing Peter Green.
