Fascinating as they are, the internal complexities of the IMF Professional Monitor [see 'Audio Milestone', p122] can be puzzling, while later variations on the theme may seem at odds with the original transmission line idea. But Peter Thomas, the creator of so many transmission line designs for his own Professional Monitor Company, explains it all better than anybody... 'Let's start with a perfect world, and the perfect transmission line. The principle is to absorb all the sound radiation from the rear of the drive unit. So all the energy going into the cabinet would be absorbed, and this means that distortion would be reallv low.
