Acoustic Solid may not be especially well-known in the UK, but like many German turntable manufacturers it is the brainchild of one man who built up the firm slowly but surely. Karl Wirth's background includes being the production manager of a company making neurosurgical equipment, before moving to the automotive industry for 15 years and specialising in acoustics and precision equipment. The story goes that Karl spent his spare time designing high-mass turntables for his own use and for friends. Word spread and demand grew, and the result is Acoustic Solid, with Karl employing a high precision toolmaker to make the mechanical parts, and for circuit development an engineer who has come from the US loudspeaker and electronics industry.
