Clearly inspired by the flagship Vivaldi digital playback system [HFN Feb '13], dCS's new Rossini series features plenty of trickle-down technology in (slightly) more affordable packages. Comprising the £18,000 dCS Rossini Player and £15,000 dCS Rossini DAC, its latest-generation processing platform includes a Vivaldi-based dCS Ring DAC supporting audio via UPnP, asynchronous USB, Apple AirPlay, AES/EBU, BNC and S/PDIF digital inputs (the latter via the Rossini CD player). A new auto-clocking system simplifies the user experience (configuring the Vivaldi is not for the faint-hearted) while multi-stage oversampling includes optional DSD upsampling plus user-selectable DSP and DSD filters. Naturally, the firmware is upgradeable to service future functionality and performance features.
