I have been moved to write for the first time after 28 years of reading Hi-Fi News (I started when I was 17). I am writing in praise of streaming and music servers! Now, there is good reason for this, which is the incredible effect it has had on the secondhand prices of both CD players and CDs. But to backtrack a little... In 1994 I bought a secondhand Roksan Xerxes, Artemiz, Artaxerxes turntable set-up for a relatively small sum and people thought I was crazy. In 2000 I also bought a Michell Gyro SE, SME IV set-up and then hoovered up the shelves of local charity shops and car-boot bins when wonderful secondhand vinyl could be had for as little as 50p a pop (anyone remember those days, before people wised-up to the vinyl resurgence and began charging £5 plus).
