They say you should never judge a book by its cover and there's plenty of evidence that the same goes for albums as well. A surprisingly great many ace recordings have been saddled with inappropriately naff sleeves, some the result of well-meant strategies which just went plain wrong, some simply inexplicable. Famously, The Beatles, bored with bland photo sessions, ended up dressed in butcher's aprons covered in blood holding slabs of meat and dismembered dolls for the cover of the 1966 American compilation LP, Yesterday And Today -the packaging swiftly pulled from the shelves and replaced with something understandably less damaging to their mop-top image and public decency.
