The last year has seen the drive to national energy efficiency come off the rails. Incentives and initiatives have either been cancelled or left to fall by the wayside, and this does not look likely to change any time soon. But elsewhere on the energy horizon there may be hope in the form of energy storage. This concept makes the most of the peaks associated with renewable technology to generate and store energy for use at a time of high demand. This would be a boost to renewable technologies such as PV and wind turbines which, although an excellent investment, do only function at their optimum when the weather (and in some cases, the season) is in their favour. The rise of energy storage would allow sunny and windy days to be used to harness and store the energy generated by PV and wind turbines for use at times of peak demand - which ironically are at very different times for the consumer and industrial markets.
