For Conex Baenninger that meant a 'race' of a different kind, one that tested its ability to deliver bespoke fabricated pipework manufactured in large quantities and to a high specification.What was required, for OEM customer Heatrae Sadia Heating, was the pre-plumb pipework for thousands of unvented hot water cylinders to be installed in apartments in the Athletes' Village.The water storage and domestic services units are connected directly to the cold water supply and deliver readily-available hot water at mains pressure.Adding to the complexity, there were eight variants of the cylinder, all meaning significant changes.Ian Wilson, OEM technical sales manager (TSM) for Conex Baenninger, said: "Our engineers looked at how we could manufacture the full set of pipework, minimising the use of compression and other fittings. This made the pipework bespoke and, where possible, joint free or with a drastically reduced number of joints.
