Hazardous Waste Listings for Inorganic Chemical Manufacturing Wastes Finalized

As required by a 1994 consent decree, EPA recently finalized its hazardous waste listing determination for the inorganic chemical manufacturing industry. On November 20,2001 (66 FR 58258-58300), the agency added three industry wastes to the list of RCRA hazardous wastes from specific sources (i.e., K-wastes) in para261.32. The newly listed wastes are: 1. K176―Baghouse filters from the production of antimony oxide, including filters from the production of intermediates (e.g., antimony metal or crude antimony oxide); 2. K177―Slag from the production of antimony oxide that is speculatively accumulated or disposed, including slag from the production of intermediates (e.g., antimony metal or crude antimony oxide); and 3. K178―Residues from manufacturing, and manufacturing-site storage, of ferric chloride from acids formed during the production of titanium dioxide using the chloride-ilmenite process.
