Fees for Lead-Based Paint Rules Finalized

Lead-based paint was banned for residential use in the United States in 1978. However, more than 38 million U.S. homes still contain some lead-based paint, and lead poisoning is the number one environmental threat to the health of children in the nation. EPA has set a goal of eliminating childhood lead poisoning as a major public health concern by 2010.rnAs part of this effort, the agency has promulgated Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) regulations in 40 CFR Part 745 that cover lead-based paint inspections, lead hazard screens, abatement, renovation, repair, and painting activities in target housing and child-occupied facilities. Under these rules, providers of regulated training courses must be accredited, and firms and individuals who provide covered services must be certified.
