Indoor air quality management system in Spain

Since the early 1990's Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) became a relevant topic between facility managers in Spain. The reason is that media showed a lot of interest in episodes of the so called „Sick Building Syndrome" or Legionella outbreaks. This situation created general public awareness. Several aspects must be taken into account: the climate in Spain makes large heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems absolutely necessary in all types of buildings, Legionella outbreaks have a large impact in tourism sector and social responsibility is becoming a more and more important issue for major companies. In April 2013 the Spanish main legal regulation dealing with HVAC systems established a compulsory yearly review of IAQ in buildings equipped with thermal installations holding a capacity above 70 kW.
