The LDR Program

The Land Disposal Restrictions program (LDR) will be fully implemented by the end of 2009. This program was enacted in March 31, 2006, with the introduction of Regulation 461, which amended Ontario's Hazardous Waste Management Regulation 347. Essentially the program is designed to ensure that the Ontario government meets its commitment to prohibit the land disposal of untreated toxic sludge. By adopting pre-treatment requirements the standards used in Ontario will now be closely aligned to those that have been used in the United States for many years. In addition to the land disposal prohibitions there are two others; prohibition of waste dilution and formal restrictions on extended storage.
