"Since man first walked on this planet, the most natural way of communication has been by voice, even if with little more than grunts," says Vocollect Europe managing director Greg Tanner, introducing the Talkman. Inspired by this history of communication, Vocollect is using voice "to bridge the gap between humans and their IT". The company has been involved in voice technology and speech synthesis since the late 1980s, when founder Roger Byford spotted a need for telephony automation and went on to "ruggedise" the voice for industrial applications.
