Smart Hose's groundbreaking technology is specially designed to cut off product flow at both ends of a hose in the event of an accidental rupture or separation. The assembly features an internal cable connected to plug-like components in the valves at each end of the hose. In the event of hose separation, unsafe stretching, or coupling-to-hose separation, the valve plugs are released and stop the flow in both directions instantly. The technology was invented by Smart Hose's founder in 1994 for the transfer of air products, but was not introduced to the wider chemical and petroleum markets until 1998 when the company was formally established. Since then, Smart Hose says its profits have increased exponentially with each quarter. "The fourth quarter will be our best quarter in the company's history," says Andy Abrams, president of Smart Hose. "Our sales will more than double year to date. We expect a 65 per cent increase heading into next year." The company's most recent coup came in November, when it signed a global purchasing agreement with Linde Gas for the promotion of its cryogenic hoses, high-pressure cylinder fill-ing hoses and a broad array of industrial hoses.
