The UN Sub-committee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods held its 24th session in Geneva this past December 3 to 10 under the chairmanship of Sergio Benassai (Italy), with Frits Wybenga (US) sitting as vice-chairman. Experts from 22 countries attended, along with observers from five others, representatives of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), International Maritime Organisation (IMO), World Health Organisation (WHO), European Commission (EC), Intergovernmental Organisation for International Carriage by Rail (OTIF) and 18 non-governmental trade organisations. Among the topics to be discussed were several that will be more than familiar to regular readers of the Bulletin, but there is still a long way to go if the July and December meetings scheduled for this year are to settle on suitable texts to present to the meeting of the UN Committee in December for inclusion in the 14th revised edition of the UN model regulations.
