Alfa Laval has unveiled its new Gunclean Tofte-jorg i65 D, a dual-nozzle tank cleaning machine built on the same platform as the company's single-nozzle Gunclean Toftejorg i65 S. The i65 D dual-nozzle tank cleaning machine is intended for smaller chemical and product tankers. The machine operates in a "criss-cross" pattern, producing a shorter cleaning cycle that consumes a minimum of cleaning fluid, the company says. "Though single-nozzle tank cleaning machines are most common today, dual-nozzle machines like the Gunclean Toftejorg i65 D have clear advantages for certain ships and their cargo operations," explains Alfa Laval. "Dual-nozzle machines strike two points simultaneously to create a faster, more efficient cleaning cycle. Whereas single-nozzle machines operate in a helical pattern, dual-nozzle machines spray cleaning fluid in a characteristic criss-cross pattern. So while a single-nozzle machine with a small pitch angle can take hours to achieve full coverage, a dual-nozzle machine reaches all tank surfaces in a fraction of the time. This means a shorter cleaning cycle, as well as a drastic reduction in fluid consumption."
