The demand for plastics drums in South Africa has now returned to pre-2009 levels, says Dave Tatz, regional director for Nampak-owned Megapak. South Africa, he explains "was not affected by the global financial woes to the same extent as Europe" and thus the local drum and pail market is "relatively healthy". Indeed, the company, which furnishes customers from the local chemicals, alcohol, agrochemicals and lube oil sectors with a wide range of UN-approved plastics packagings, reports "slight growth" for its pail lines primarily as a result of rising demand from the agro-chemicals sector.
