Delays urged on oil sands pipelines

A coalition of Ub environmental groups has urged the government to put an indefinite hold on the construction of new oil sands pipelines from Canada until the safety of the transmission of the product can be established. A report, Tar Sands Pipeline Safety Risks, targets in particular TransCanada's Keystone XL project, which seeks to carry what is in effect diluted bitumen at elevated temperatures and high pressures over a distance of 3,200 km.
