Despite the headline figures for 2011 that around 230 tankers, each containing 45,000 litres of fuel, were destroyed during delivery from Pakistan to the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, military movements of fuel from storage to forward operational areas have become safer. British and US forces have adopted different, but successful new technologies to protect the fuel and reduce the potential for conflagration.
