Indigo Airlines, a low-cost Indian operator, had to divert its Singapore to Madras flight one day last month, after a passenger reported a suspicious package in a toilet. The aircraft, carrying 145 passengers, put down in Kuala Lumpur, where the captain reported a suspected chemical leak. The airport's hazmat unit dashed out to deal with the emergency. Responders gingerly removed the suspect package, inside which they found no sign of anything dangerous, just three gold bars. The story raises a number of questions, notably: who would carry three gold bars onto a plane and then leave them in the toilet? But mosdy: why would someone with three gold bars be flying on a budget airline?
