FULL CIRCLE: TWO RECENT OUTSTANDING WORKS IN SPAIN

Forms can be misleading. Two works completed in 2011 by Mansilla+Tunon and Nieto Sobejano use similar formal resources to obtain almost opposite architectural results. The former's Lalfn Town Hall and the latter's Lugo History Museum are public buildings in Galicia, both won in competitions (in 2004 and 2007, respectively), both are designed by Madrid firms, and both are shaped in plan by more than a dozen circles of different sizes, more or less haphazardly arranged, as can be seen in the aerial views.
