Deutsche Reeder drohen gegenüber der internationalen Konkurrenz zurückzufallen, wenn sie nicht einen Finanzierungsersatz für das KG-Modell finden. Eine neue Kapitalquelle können Private-Equity-Fonds sein - allerdings sind viele Schifffahrtsunternehmen noch nicht bereit für diese Art von Investoren, warnten Experten auf dem Ship Finance Forum der »Financial Times Deutschland«, das Anfang September im Vorfeld der SMM stattfand.%German owners will have to find new equity sources to replace the paralysed KG market otherwise they risk being left behind their competitors, experts warned at the Ship Finance Forum held by ?Financial Times Deutschland? in the run-up to the SMM trade fair in Hamburg. In spite of prevailing overcapacities several speakers told that the current restraint will not last long. ?I think that German owners should think about replacing their fleets,? said Dr Dirk Lammerskoetter, Head of shipping at HSH Corporate Finance, the advisory arm of ship lending giant HSH Nordbank. Ron Widdows, CEO of Rickmers Holding and former Head of Singapore shipping company NOL, was certain that those who can afford it will order new ships as newbuilding prices were very attractive. German owners risk missing the boat if they do not find financing alternatives. However, to tap new financing sources including the capital market or private equity investors, German owners will have to become more transparent and improve their financial reporting and controlling, Widdows warned.
