Fire is always a danger for people travelling on board ships. As more people are on board as more problems occur. It is of course the best when every single piece is incombustible. But th'is is extremely unrealistic. Often it is only a question of temperature when things start to burn. Extinguishing is another keyword when incom-bustability can not be reached. Mainly this is done by using sprinklers which start to spray water on to a hot area after a thermal nozzle is opened by the heat of a fire. But there are other ways of taking precaution measures: The construction of a ship can be arranged in that way that a fire has difficulties to burn through rooms and complete decks. These precaution measures are developed within national and international bodies like IMO. HANSA reports regularly about activities within the German authorities discussing them in IMO aides.
