Selective Weathering of Dolomite Bodies from a Limestone Host

A weathering pattern in which saccharoidal dolomite is removed from a biopelmicritic limestone may be observed in some Lower Ordovician rocks of central Kentucky. Experiments indicate that the pattern initiates from combined solution and frost wedging. Once established, the selective removal of dolomite is probably spatially concentrated by the preferential collection of water on the rougher dolomite surfaces.
