A while back, in a pre COVID-19 world (remember that?), I attended my daughters Careers Day at her school. I was there to give a talk on journalism and, facing the class of 17 year olds, I kicked off with two questions. "How many of you would like to travel the world?" Almost every hand went up. "How many of you would like to travel the world for free?" A complete show of hands. I knew at that moment I had their undivided attention... I've been amongst the lucky ones, that I do know. Before I entered the world of aviation I was in the food sector, managing titles on bakery and biscuit products, potato processing machinery and frozen food. It was, and is still, a largely stable sector: were you to plot a graph, the line would be flat, for very little that was revolutionary ever occurred. In contrast, the aviation graph would have more peaks and troughs than a roller-coaster. My life was spent driving around Europe (notably Holland, Germany, France and Belgium), visiting factories, with the occasional trade show thrown in. In terms of flying, this usually entailed trips to the US: every January saw me complete the triangle that comprised Seattle, Portland and Boise.
