Exposure to some phthalates linked to 'significant' IQ drop in children

Children of mothers exposed to levels of two phthalates consistent with normal exposure had significantly lower IQs than those who weren't, according to Columbia University researchers. The study by researchers at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health found children exposed during pregnancy to plastic softeners di-n-butyl phthalate, or DnBP, and diisobutyl phthalate, or DiBP, had IQ scores more than 6 points lower than children exposed at lower levels.
