Nations can ban GMO cultivation under new law

The European Union has approved a new law that gives member states the right to ban the cultivation of genetically modified crops. The law allows the 28 nations the right to ban cultivation of the crops even if the foods have been approved by the E.U.'s food safety authority. The approval was overwhelmingly supported by the European Parliament today in Strasbourg, France, by a margin of 480-159, with 58 abstentions.
