Judge rejects Bundy's call for a mistrial

PORTLAND, Ore. — A federal judge on Friday denied Malheur National Wildlife Refuge standoff leader Ammon Bundy's request for a mistrial. Bundy, who along with six co-defendants is charged with conspiring to impede federal workers through force, intimidation or threats during the 41-day armed occupation, claimed the government's witnesses had offered unfairly prejudicial testimony in the first week of the trial. His lawyer, Marcus Mumford, pointed to two statements. First, Harney County Sheriff David Ward said he had learned that the 2014 killing of two police officers in Las Vegas was committed by two people who had spent time at the Bundy family ranch in Bunkerville, Nev., during a 2014 armed standoff.
