Emergency wild horse roundup enrages advocates

Wild horse advocates are furious about an emergency roundup northwest of Las Vegas by the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management. The agencies, which said the horse population is too big for the area's limited resources, plan to trap about 200 animals (Greenwire. May 8). During an informational meeting Wednesday night about the roundup, officials were met with calls of "liar" and "murderer" by about 50 protesters. "Save the wild horses, round up the BLM," one woman's T-shirt read. Some insisted that the horses were in good condition, others that fewer horses would mean higher wildfire risk. "You're supposed to be managing," said one woman. "I don't see management; I see extinction."
