2nd illegal break-in releases 73 more quarantined bison

Seventy-three quarantined bison were illegally released this week from their containment pens in Yellowstone National Park, although many returned. Someone "compromised" the fence at the Stephens Creek quarantine facility sometime between Wednesday night and yesterday morning, park officials said. The bison were being held to make sure they're not infected with brucellosis before being transferred to the Fort Peck tribes. The process takes two years and must be restarted if a bison touches unquarantined land; that means some of the older bulls released this week will no longer be eligible for transfer and are more likely to be killed.
