摘要

Experts are looking into how clinicians can help patients exposed to "forever chemicals," part of ongoing federal efforts to better understand and address the impacts of the toxic substances. During a panel yesterday, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine launched a project aimed at advising federal health agencies on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and patient care. The National Academies plan to share the findings with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), as well as the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. The committee will provide "an objective and authoritative review" of evidence around human health impacts linked to the PFAS that are currently being monitored by the CDC's National Report on Human Exposure to Environmental Chemicals.
