Wis. governor looks to hire outside attorneys for PFAS suits

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers' administration announced Friday that it wants to hire outside attorneys to potentiallyfile lawsuits over per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) contamination.The administration said it will begin soliciting bids from law firms to "evaluate and pursue" litigation againstcompanies responsible for the pollution. Evers (D) will make the final decision on whom to hire.State Department of Justice spokesperson Gillian Drummond said retaining outside counsel rather than usingDOJ attorneys is in the state's best interest because Evers can hire attorneys who specialize in PFAS cases, andthe lawsuits would consume substantial DOJ resources.
