A European Manufacturer's Perspective

On January 12,2006, upon arrival in the United States after a long transatlantic flight, I received a message on my cell phone: "first Galileo signals received." It was an emotional and truly historic event for Septentrio, the fruit of many years of unconditional commitment to the Galileo program, years of risk-taking, very hard work, and many technical firsts. We started studying GNSS-2 in 1998, when venture capital was plentiful for any entrepreneur. Since the early nineties, GNSS-2 had been on the drawing board of the European Union, the European Space Agency (ESA), and Eurocontrol.
