Nasa Looking For A Few Hard Receivers

The U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) seeks information from commercial vendors who can provide radiation-hardened GPS receivers for an inflight fast satellite signal acquisition experiment aboard a future space shuttle flight, according to NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston. The space agency wants to perform detailed testing to ascertain the applicability of fast satellite acquisition technology to future NASA space flight programs. NASA said it has already identified contractor Honeywell International as a potential source; the company is developing a radiation-hardened version of its commercial Mercury GPS receiver that incorporates fast satellite acquisition technology developed by Goddard Space Flight Center.
