The Mayakoba, an upscale tourist resort in Mexico, recently became the first to receive recognition from the Rainforest Alliance for sustainable practices in tourism. From initial planning to current practices, the destination currently boasts three hotels (another will open next year) and a golf course in the heart of the Riviera Maya, near Playa del Carmen, Mexico. The project reflects new standards embraced by OHL Development, a subsidiary of Obrascon Hurate Lain SA, a large Spanish construction, concession, development, and industrial group that views environmental respect as key to financial viability.
