The optimal corporate strategy concept is one that provides an optimal balance between the desire for continuity and the need for strategic renewal. In order to allow executives to analyze systematically the content items of alternative versions of the corporate strategy concept, the framework of a merger scan was introduced. This framework also contains decision rules on whether the main items of a corporate strategy concept version should be accepted, renegotiated, or rejected. Executives can use the merger scan as an analytical tool that helps them guide their preparations for the deal.
