In the late 1980s and 1990s, we enjoyed several land administration books, including ones by Dale & McLaughlin (1988), Larsson (1991) and Dale & McLaughlin (1999). Now, after more than ten years of further development, we are indeed due a new one. Ian Williamson, Stig Enemark, Jude Wallace and Abbas Rajabifard have bundled their knowledge and wisdom into a common approach to land administration. The overarching concept is simple: based on a good understanding of the land administration paradigm, common processes can be identified which can be implemented by a selection of tools out of the toolbox. This deviates much from the past, when countries desiring to develop land administration systems (LAS) were advised to copy western-style systems because they appeared to be proven in practice.
